About us
At Shamrock we want you and your pet to want to come to the vet, because you like us! We aim to make coming to see us fun yet relaxing. We have treats for those who want them and space, tranquility and gentle handling for our more nervous patients.

Shamrock history.
Maurice Kelly was the founding partner in 1994 and his wife Pamela Singleton joined him in 1999 as a partner.

Sarah Kitwood Maurice Kelly MVB MRCVS
Partner, veterinary surgeon.

Maurice is a graduate of University College Dublin in 1984. He worked in mixed and small animal practices as far afield as Scotland and New Zealand before settling in Harrogate in 1994. Maurice's veterinary interests include dermatology (skin problems) and providing the best clinical care for all our patients. He is our general "Mr Fix-it" and is always having to sort out technical problems as they arise. His main interests away from work are running, mountain biking and fund raising for animal charities.

Pamela Singleton BVSc Cert VR FRCVS
Partner, veterinary surgeon.

Pamela is also from the class of '84, from Liverpool University. She has previously worked as House surgeon at Glasgow Veterinary School as well as in various mixed and small animal practices. Further professional qualifications include a Certificate in Veterinary Radiology (X-rays) and a Fellowship in veterinary oncology (cancer medicine). Pamela also worked for many years in a diagnostic laboratory doing clinical pathology and so does all our microscope work looking at all our Fine Needle Aspirates - samples taken from lumps, bumps and internal organs.

Veterinary surgeon.

Another Liverpool graduate, Sarah has worked for several years at Shamrock. She spends her free time looking after her family and dogs.

Judith Turner BSc(Hons)
Practice Administrator, Accounts.

Judith looks after our accounts, administration and is our Insurance Claims Administrator. She is an enthusiastic horsewoman and is often out riding the range on a ranch in Colorado. She is interested in animal behaviour and belongs to several equine organisations. She qualified in Agricultural Science and used to milk Jersey cows in Sussex. In the past she has owned a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Veterinary nurse

Sue has been a friendly face at Shamrock for more than 20 years now. She works part time for us as now she has a young son to keep her on her toes. She also has a lovely Labrador called Madison and Sue is pictured here holding her “ Maddie” as a puppy.

In her spare time she likes to keep fit as well as walking and socialising.

Hannah Pennington

Hannah joined the Shamrock team in October 2019.

Originally a teacher Hannah left the profession to pursue an interest in customer facing animal care. Hannah has two guinea pigs at home, Kevin and Holt, and helps look after her grandparents rescue dog, Lexi, which keeps her busy out of work!

Joanna Spittlehouse Joanna Spittlehouse RVN

Jo joined Shamrock in 2015, having qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2007. She enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, including nurses appointments, taking blood samples and small procedures on animals.

She has a cat called Willow, a husband and two young daughters. Jo keeps herself busy when not working with looking after her family and days out with her daughters.

Grace Thompson

Grace joined Shamrock in the summer of 2017. She really enjoys greeting clients , meeting all the animals and being a friendly welcoming face at Shamrock. She had previous experience of looking after animals at kennels and rescue centres.

Grace enjoys looking after her own dog Barney the Jack Russell and keeps fit by going on runs with him.

Charlotte Jackson

Charlotte has been at Shamrock since spring of 2019.She loves working with animals and likes to visit her mum and wire haired dachshund Winston in the Netherlands.

Charlotte has been a student of psychology and is very interested in canine behaviour and training.
